The second in a series of annual scientific lectures to celebrate the legacy of Professor Sir Ian Wilmut, presented by Professor of Molecular Genetics at Utrecht University and pioneer of tissue stem cell-based organoids.
Professor Wilmut and colleagues pioneered an animal cloning research technique which produced Dolly the sheep, the first mammal created from an adult cell.
Professor Clevers’ research in stem cells has enabled the development of mini organs, or organoids, in a range of tissue types. These can be altered using gene editing, to allow the study of cell and tissue development, physiology and disease in models that are very similar to the organism under scrutiny.
The lecture is followed by a drinks reception from 4pm, supported by the Roslin Foundation.
The Roslin Foundation supports research and business development in biosciences, particularly in agriculture and biomedicine, with the aim of inspiring the next generation of scientists to enter this exciting field.
