Raygonal has been awarded a Scottish Enterprise SMART Grant for the development of the company's AI-powered aquaculture system. This brings the total funding secured over recent months to £120,000 from Scottish Enterprise, the Venture Builder Incubator at the Bayes Centre, and through Roslin Innovation Centre.
This investment marks a major milestone in Raygonal's mission to transform seafood production in Scotland.
It will enable the company to advance their innovative aquaculture technology, Aquary - a cleantech, modular and AI-powered solution for sustainably raising fish - and take critical steps toward commercialisation.
Aquary is a groundbreaking, sustainable aquaculture system designed to produce fresh, antibiotic-free tropical seafood locally—right where it’s consumed.
"A huge thank you to the incredible team at Edinburgh Innovations, in particular John Hill, Enterprise Executive; and the University of Edinburgh for their invaluable support throughout our journey so far.
"We are also excited to collaborate with Interface, to tap into Scotland’s world-class research expertise and drive further innovation in aquaculture."
Dr. Aliyu Dala, Founder and CEO of RaygonalIn the last three decades, aquaculture has grown by more than 600% making it the fastest growing sector in agriculture. This has placed massive pressure on our seas, lands and forests - and the transportation of fish across great distances is exacerbating climate change.
To help tackle these problems, Raygonal has developed Aquary, a cleantech solution designed to hatch or raise any fish, anywhere in the world, addressing the challenges of unsustainable aquaculture practices.
"We look forward to developing our revolutionary technology at Roslin Innovation Centre, an agri-tech hub on Easter Bush Campus, and to be part of this dynamic innovation ecosystem within Scotland’s A3 sector - Animal Health, Agritech and Aquaculture - which has a history of cutting-edge research and is home to pioneering breakthroughs such as Dolly the Sheep, the first mammal cloned from an adult cell that led to widespread advancements within stem cell research."
Dr. Aliyu Dala, Founder and CEO of RaygonalThe company's innovative approach ensures sustainability, transparency, and antibiotic-free seafood, addressing overfishing, harmful aquaculture practices, and the inefficiencies of long supply chains.
By bringing production closer to consumption, Raygonal reduce transportation emissions and ensure fresher, higher-quality seafood. With cutting-edge automation and a profitable investment model, they make premium seafood more accessible while protecting our planet.
"A big shout out to the businesses and stakeholders who have helped us refine our offering and gain deep market insights. Your support has been instrumental in shaping our approach, ensuring we bring fresh, high-quality seafood to the communities that need it most.
"Stay tuned as we scale Aquary and drive the future of sustainable aquaculture!"
